Where does all the time go, anyway?
Ever have one of those days where you just KNOW that you have a To-Do list as long as your arm, but – instead of getting started – you decide to go on Facebook just to see what everyone else is up to? Then, of course, you see a link on your timeline that you have HAVE to click. Which leads you to an article about shopping, which reminds you that you really need to get a new pair of boots, so naturally you wind up on Nordstrom.com.
Before you know it, it’s freaking 2:00 pm and you haven’t finished even one little thing on that To-Do list!
I may or may not be speaking from experience, LOL. 😉
So, the question you need to ask yourself is …
Are you in busy-ness or are you in business?
As you can see from my example above, it’s totally possible to have a very busy morning, but not actually do anything productive or profitable.
You need to figure out what’s taking your attention away from those high-impact activities that make your business money, right?
So buy yourself a stylish notebook or set up a Google Doc, because I want you to figure out where you’re spending your time!
1. Track it. For the next few days, keep track of what you’re doing during your day. Get down and dirty with the nitty-gritty details! Every phone call, every interruption, every move you make, every breath you take – you get it!
2. Chart it. At the end of the week, come up with a report on where your time is being spent. Maybe 50% of your time is spent on email, 20% with family, 10% on social media – whatever! Once you can see a concrete overview of where your time is going, it’ll be easier for you to figure out what you need to change to make it work for you!
You may be very surprised by where your time goes once you start paying close enough attention! What task do you think is the biggest waste of your time right now?
